A different option you can use is a portable router. I bought a IOGEAR NetShair Nano for that use case. I use it for bridging tablets and smartphones to wired Ethernet.

Just as a PSA.... due to limitations in USB 2.0 you will see nowhere near gigabit speeds with this or any other "backwards compatible" USB 2.0 "gigabit" adapters. More like 25% of that speed or 250...

As long as the adapter is plugged into USB3 port, CPU usage will be negligible since USB3 controller is asynced with DMA.
