We do the same thing, reusing the bottom plate if it's not dirty. We do the same with the Dixie brand bowls and cereal and similar foods. I wish a company would put out a truly "heavy duty" plate...

Yes, I've used these in the microwave for a few minutes and they were fine. The question was also answered by the manufacturer on the amazon link. They are strong and liquid does not penetrate...
