A dedicated tuner can work, but I've found for tuning a violin it's much easier for me to just play a YouTube violin E A D G video.

It's not a deal, but i decided to go with the KLIQ MetroPitch when deciding between this one and the kliq, I like the key changes a whole lot better on the kliq.

i remember these things. pretty slow for tuning compared to $50 pedal tuners...but this will get the job done for under $15. plus is a metronome, so thats a good thing.

A smartphone tuner app which uses the mic will never be as accurate as a piezo or input tuner. Harmonic readings through microphones are garbage which make adjusting intonation nearly impossible....
