With USB-C PD, the cables aren't dumb - they have chips to negotiate handshakes and agreements to determine power levels etc. So that also means they aren't reversible.

With third party small seller cables, only read the one star reviews. Almost all say these quit charging after a short time, not supported. Not MFI and will last a week or so.
