Pretty much any small speaker with a 5.25" woofer will greatly benefit from a sub to handle the lower range. It's not absolutely necessary, but it is a plus.

I use my Sonys with a tube amp, to help give warmer sound. I used a solid state amp, as the pioneers are naturally warm. Will probably do the same for the B5's.

I had the B6's have pretty good bass capability for it's size and a warmer sound than the Sony CS5's. To me, the treble of the B6 sounded similar, yet more refined and smooth than the AJ Pioneer...

I'm not so sure I would agree with that after listening to the ELAC S10EQ for a few hours. The S10 is definitely a more accurate sub than the F12 and I'm sure distortion levels when these subs are...

And some can afford $500/pair speakers, but don't see the value in paying that much for a pair of passive bookshelf speakers. I received the S10EQ sub today and for such a small sub it does pretty...

Thanks! Repped. I was thinking a 12" would be good. I bounce back and forth between some models, but just might wait for the next SVS sale. I saw the new Elacs have two 10" drivers. interesting.

Get the BIC PL-200 II for that price range. Even the F12 would out perform the ELAC.
