i don't think you are correct about the 5500, but i could be mistaken. the 5500 says the HEPA filter itself is washable, not the carbon pre-filter. though to be honest, i don't buy that the HEPA...

That means your house air is relatively clean already, if the fan doesn't spin up on auto often. You can always set the fan manually. There are sleep timer options to turn the unit off after 4/8...

5500 comes with a washable carbon filter that you wash every 3 month. Good for a year. The C535/5300 carbon filters are not washable and need replacement every 3 months

5500 comes with a remote, as does C535 i am not concerned with oem filter cost. i can get generic hepa filters for both models on ebay for $17 and those filters get stellar reviews i am looking...

It is an air filter, not a fan. It is not supposed to ''move" air. Get a Vornado for that.

I bought the 5500 3 years ago and it's great. I only use it for my room, though. It's funny that people latch onto 1 random post on slickdeals and determine the product is terrible.

Costco version comes with an extra year of filters (so 2 HEPA + 8 carbon total) and looks like they can be had for $110 with the current 25% off Google express thing. I picked a couple up a few...
