That's exactly what I decided to do. Plus I don't need to be running Linux right this second. I have a few other laptops I could throw it on, many other hdds, etc. so I can definitely wait for a...

NO, no, no. Stay away from this brand if you will want this for something valuable. Games, movies, cat videos are ok, but forget about documents, pictures, home made vides, anything that have value...

3D NAND is not necessarily better. In fact for this product at 240G it has a worse spec than the 2D NAND version.

Reviews are iffy. I'd go with something more reliable, especially since you don't need this much space.

Forget that sarcastic response. You were clear. Use the mfg provided tools to scan for issues. These are often on the mfg product page under downloads. If the mfg does not provide a tool you can...

I'm sorry for miswording it. I meant how do I check to see if I got a bad SSD--like defective?

Um ... sure! Go to your local computer recycler, say "I want to buy some bad SSDs", and they'll usually sell you all you want for a buck or two each. No program required. Or buy Brand X drives...

The link goes to the 2D NAND version. For $5 more I would consider the 3D NAND version instead, also at Newegg. However, the high failure rate reported for both in the reviews makes me wary.

Finally a sub $50 240GB SSD. Very rare. I'd jump on it if I didn't already have a 240GB one.

I don't know anything about that company, though. Would you buy it? I's rather pay $50 for one that will last, but if it's good, I would absolutely love a deal.

That's kind of high for SSD, no? When do they typically die? Is it DOA or at least close to the beginning? Or do they die after a few months? Never had an SSD die and I am curious.
