Sure it is safe with rinsing with water. I have a couple places I have replaced under the sink with plastic and this works. If you can try some of those quick hair snakes they will usually clean...

It would be rather unusual to have copper drain piping. Your water supply may be copper but your drains are likely pvc, cast iron or clay.
Also, don't use this stuff if you're on a septic tank....

Just curious. How well does this clean the clog? I usually clean the p-trap every couple years and it's pretty bad. Have to physically take out the gunk sometimes with a scraper.
