Yes even the manual has the warning about the smell. It should go away eventually. Ran mine empty twice outside (see pic) and is already better.

We've been through this. The Costco model does not come with basket in basket. Only the outer basket. I've seen it in person at Costco. The Best Buy one does.

Round vs square I can assure you makes no difference as the space inside very small and the element is rather big and close to the food. Square IMO is more versatile when it comes to food placement.
