The HE5se is more mature, smooth and refined in comparison but its is rather more power hungry then the Sundara.

It should work reasonably well with the A17, though the HE5se will perform better with more power.

a simpler way to explain would be that balanced headphone means each cup is wired individually vs 1 wire that splits. to take advantage of that you need a balanced cable and balanced amp.. many amps...

Balanced amps and multibit DACs are such a joke. You don't need actual watts for most hps, a FiiO A1 can get the job done for the most part. Balanced connections for hps are even more lolworthy....
