Yes, you can. When you first power the bulb on, it defaults to 100% brightness. So, you can treat it like a regular bulb using an on/off switch.

As was mentioned by Jay, the term in this case is pretty interchangeable. The gateway/hub is the way the zigbee lights all can interact with your home internet and sync up to the mobile app they use....
