Based on others feedback on this thread I now doubt the slooooow print speed I have is Router related. It's just what you get with Brother printers, at least in this price range.

I recommend Jarbo Brand ink for Brother printers. I believe I'm on my fourth set of Jarbo cartridge's and not one dud.
