I post on Craigslist offering to meet up at a store. I buy what they want with the gift card and then hand the item to them and they give me the cash.

I can't speak to that. They are generally not something I would use since they rip people off on the trade in and do not offer a serious enough discount on a purchase to be worth the hassle.
