not quite, it depends on the build date of the motherboard. Older stock may still need an update - but 4xx motherboards built in 2019 will have a bios that's compatible out of the box. worst case...

If your mobo is not a x570 then you will need to update bios. If you have a x470 or lower mobo that is. If your new to ryzen like me then you need an older ryzen cpu to update the bios before...

I have an ASRock x570m pro 4 that I plugged my 3600x directly into no bios update. Pretty sure need none for the whole 3000 series and a matx board to boot.
