Bad cartridges happen from time to time with the 3rd party brands that even have good reviews, vacuum up the waste run a cleaning cycle with a replacement cartridge and things should clean up.

i just removed the cartridge, and there's a shitload of toner on the roller. actually, compared to the original oem starter cartridge, the lin.kyo cartridge looks normal. but I'm still getting...

I would give it a cleaning and see how it works after a few pages. 3rd party toners if not manufactured correctly can dump excessive toner sometimes. Rarely this ruins things permanently.
