Have you checked framework laptop? I don't need tons of ports. But basic ports like 1-2 TB, 1-2 USB A, 1 SD card, 1 headphone jack. You can skip RJ45 as it is fat. But others are not.

there is little point to get a Thunderbolt docking station if you don't have Thunderbolt. TB3 does 40Gbps and USB 3.1 SuperSpeed+ only goes up to 10 Gbps. You just don't have the bandwidth over USB....
