Not random, but in Ace Hardware I saw a bulb on the shelf that changed color from red to green to white automatically. A Christmas Bulb. A normal bulb for a lamp, not christmas lights on a string...

No. The 50 watts is just a general equivalent given for comparison of the 600 lumen light output to that of standard incandescent bulbs. They use 7 watts.

50watt equivalent is not very bright at all. I think most people use 60 watt as standard but personally I like 75-100watts with a dimmer

Totally depends on the fixture. I have a small bathroom with a six bulb vanity. Following your advice would lead to the Kenny Rogers Seinfeld episode :)

In my experience, you really want a minimum of 60w for enough brightness. 75w if you have higher ceilings. And 100w for double height applications
