That's not even a debate, it's a fact. I have a B350 Tomahawk from like 2017 and its running a 5600X. If I bought a CPU from Intel in 2017, I would have had to wait two generations of sockets before...

One can probably make an argument, that building an AM4 rig is easier than building an intel rig. B450, b550,x570, maybe even a b350 with a bios update can run most am4 cards.

I mean yeah AM4 is 'ending' but that intel chip still will run hotter and only has about half the cache the AMD chip does. At least AMD getting a new socket is reasonable, we've had AM4 for 5+ years...

Is this good for a UnRaid setup and a good B550 motherboard with lots of SATA/SAS connectors.. ? Was looking at a Fractal case or U-Nas similar..

If gaming is your thing, 12400f is better and $25 cheaper. I haven't really noticed AM4 motherboards being all that much cheaper than LGA 1700 either.

Huh? 5000 series is the last CPU for AM4. Outside of low-end offering, the price delta between the two platforms is almost nothing.

And compatible MOBO's are more expensive than the AM4 counterparts with a much smaller upgrade path. Almost half the cache. Stock cooler is much worse. Should I go on?

B550 boards, with good heatsinks on the board, are usually the best bang for the buck.

That is... not accurate. From my link stock vs stock 3600x vs 5600x on 7 games results were: Cyberpunk 2077: 6% Far Cry 6: 10% Watch Dog Legion: 18% Flight Simulator: 26%

I think that depends on what you paid for the 12400f. It's competitive and has stronger single core performance compared to the 5600x. Other considerations such as motherboard selection/pricing, ddr4...

Of course this deal comes up 1 day after I buy a 12400f. Probably not worth dealing with a Newegg return considering they are about equal, right?

This isn't correct. The 5600x doesn't have graphics built in, so you'd need a graphics card.

Depends on what you consider a budget build price tag. https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/ Thats a good starting point to narrow down your options.

I agree. Wildly different results. Lots of factors we probably can't account for or know for sure. From your link - 3 games showed massive (25-30% gains), 3 showed moderate gains (10%+), and one...

Won't necessarily need a GPU with this. It's an APU and has graphics built in. But it's not top tier graphics. You'll need one eventually but if you were on a budget you could get by. And any 450...
