These have no user access control. Everyone is an admin and that's the only configuration option. That is limiting in some use cases.

Probably, but it depends on who you get at the return desk. After a year, they may give you a hard time about it.

So unlimited storage means everything is in the cloud and this doesn’t work if there’s no internet?
Edit: Answered my own question. No, they don’t work without an active internet connection....
