There comes a point where it's time to cut your losses - I say format & reload from scratch. If you're spending more time trying to fix it that you would to reload, I wouldn't trust the fix anyway.

tried it. no go. the key works fine. has a green check mark when inputted. all i know is that i uninstalled office 2007 and all hell broke loose from there. can't even reinstall office 2007

Uninstall all office versions from Add/Remove Programs. Reboot. Run Ccleaner. Reboot. Install the version you want to use -- be sure you have a legit key for it.
