I check the manual and the original box, all showing ITP280B. In the manual, the diagram of inputs matches with the input of the my unit with the optical option. I guess there are different version...

It also works with a iPhone 5 (with the 16pin to lightening adapter - tho not much support for the phone).
I actually think the sound is decent. There are several different EQ settings so try them...

I can confirm that it does work with the iPhone 4s. Just received it today and put my iPhone 4s on the dock and it works flawlessly. I can change songs from the remote through my 4s.

select iPod as source, then the drawer will open. It took a minute for me to figure it out.
There is volume difference when you connect to red/white audio vs 3.5mm, 3.5mm being louder.

I was using the dock with my iPhone. I suppose I could try a different hook up. Just a bummer cause it was pretty cool that it charged my iPhone as well.
