Sounds like the heads are clogged. Do a printer clean like previously suggested. It did that likely because you don't use it enough. You should really switch to a laser printer so you dont have to...

It may have a bit of dust up in there somewhere. Does the Brother software have some sort of cleaning method that prints a page to get rid of lines or misalignment? My mother uses a Lexmark inkjet...

OP you said black ink, are you using an inkjet or laser printer? only laser printers have a toner drum.

HI Have a brothers printer- started getting missing areas when printing coupons, changed the black ink and same thing - even worse; looks like my page is striped. any suggestions?
