No he took me behind the counter to see the sets. They are all brand-new ball joint removal sets in factory sealed boxes. For $150 I could get a much better set (OTC). These are pretty much cheap...

borrow + deposit is not the same as buy + return.
Borrowing implies you understand the tool might be used. Buy/return implies the product will be put back on retail sale as new.

No its not fishy. Autozone does it too. Its just a deposit so if you don't return the tool they aren't screwed. Borrowed tons of tools this way without issue from autozone.
