Thanks guys. I put about 90 minutes into vanilla but tonight will give warband a try. I like it so far, but as is typical with Paradox, there is not much handholding or structure (cough CK2)

For singleplayer, the core game is pretty similar. I'd just go right to Warband and play SP for a bit to get used to it. Multiplayer can be very brutal to newbies as the combat is difficult to master.

I have 459 hours played in M&B Warband, 99% of that is multiplayer. One of the most addicting games out there. The Napoleonic Wars DLC takes it to another level of awesomeness. Buy this!
