are the batteries in the sets "starter" batteries? smaller than the regular sized batteries? DeWalt pulls this crap with their kits. Is the 299 with the hammer drill a good deal?

Late last year they had this deal on the M12 and M18. Buy a kit and get a free battery. These batteries retail for like $100+ at HD. So it is a good buy.

False. Batteries are rated in amperage hours(Ah) which is the amount of time a battery can operate its tool between charges.

False. You forgot about Amperage. The larger battery packs are able to supply more amps at the same 18v. Power = Amps x Voltage So the larger battery makes more power.
