Its an Atheros LAN chip. I have the UD3H version of this board, which is very close in design. Honestly, I haven't been that happy with the board. It doesn't deal with S3 sleep very well at all,...

Any 3rd gen Ivy will be fine. Note that if you wanted to use onboard gfx in OSX, you'll have to choose a CPU that had HD4000 gfx, like 3225 or 3570K

I have this board with i5 3570k, rock solid, no problem running 24/7. I always have good experience with Gigabyte board. I highly recommend.

any i5 or any i7. i 3 will work too if you're on a budget. I am using it with a 3770K. if you have a microcenter around you you can get both cpu + mobo at a discount.
