Its hard to tell if the drive is spun down because you hear the fan when you listen closely with your ear. Anyone know if the light blinks or turns off when in sleep/standby mode? Mine says it...

Just opened and hooked mine up today from Amazon. Haven't done much with it yet, but it immediately was recognized in Windows 7 and took files no problem. I'm curious if the drive has some type of...

I picked up the STCA3000101 (made and assembled in China) last week @ Costco and I haven't opened the package yet. I've read a bunch of reviews on Amazon and other places about the drives made in...

Neither of those utilities will tell what type of hard drive it is. It will only report back the serial number. I just tried both of them. Can you tell me how you did it? If not, can you recommend...

I bought one a year ago, so far I've returned it and swapped it out with a new one every 3 months due to the accumulation of bad sectors. The problem seems to be that they run at around 60c idle,...

If you install the seagate dashboard, it will have an option to power down the drive after a certain amount of time. I set mine to 5 minutes.

How does this external drive power down? Is there an on/off switch and a built-in fan? If not, maybe that's the reason why these drives sometimes fail after a short period as they can overheat. ...
