Except Sam's doesn't accept Visa in-store, and Chase Freedom are all Visa. You have to buy a Sam's gift card online using the Chase Freedom to get the 5% CB.

That doesn't make any sense.
Regardless of if you spend $100 per day, week, or month, a higher % reward is always better than a lower % reward.
2% is pretty terrible for groceries.

Exactly. For some people, monthly groceries are $100 for some it's $100 per day/week. It really depends. Not everyone spends the same amount on groceries. Hence 2% would be sufficient.
