There is a small indention around the opening to collect the steam. Although it takes 45 minutes to cook the rice, it's well worth it.

This looks very similar to a black and decker model I got from sears for 5 bucks, and that seems to work pretty well. One of these days I'll get the fancy perfect ones but not today!
