Where it takes a candelabra base, I never found anything larger than a 60w, but yes, if you found a brighter LED you could go bigger.

If you don't want to return, it is easy to fix it. You can remove the two wings of the base, add some spacers, reattach the wings. Now the cover is lower and won't touch motor.

Any issues with yours? Mine is installed perfectly to specifications and the rotating assembly rubs on the mesh that covers the ventilation holes. The fan is level and it still rubs all 360 degrees....

Yes but your existing garage electrical box might not be rated for a ceiling fan. Those are pretty cheap though.
