Amazon has this great lens on sale for $799 plus an additional 15% cash back when using your amazon card for a $680 cost if you plan on spending some cash back anyhow (don't we all)

This is the improved G2 model, I believe this is the best deal yet when bought new. Amazon has run 10% cash back deals in the past.

Only valid on sold and shipped by Amazon, add it to cart and proceed to checkout it will show you the 5% + 10% off under "additional rewards"

Awesome lens! I ended up with the slightly smaller Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 (which they created in direct response to the popularity of this Tamron). If the Sigma didn't exist, I'd fully have kept the Tamron.

Why did you choose Sigma over Tamron? Thanks

Recently I purchased this Tamron lens and am very pleased with the results.

It was 5% + 10% yesterday when I saw this post, it's back to 5% + 1% now. Good find of this lightning deal!

The Sigma is smaller. That's my only reason.

Granted, it is smaller because it stops at 70mm, but watching comparisons online, 5mm makes a huge difference on the wide end but oddly negligible difference on the Tele end.

So I knew I would have essentially the same lens utility but smaller. I care a lot about keeping my set on the smaller side so I use it more often.

But the Tamron is great and is the reason Sigma even made their similar version - I wouldn't switch if the small size difference isn't as bothersome for you.

And since the lens in this deal is part of a series for both Sigma and Tamron: Ironically, I picked the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 for my wide lens because in that range, Tamron makes the smaller lens compared to Sigma's new 16-28mm f2.8.

So I'm not brand loyal, I think both are amazing value in this line of full-frame zooms. I don't like Sigma and Tamron's higher end lenses honestly due to weight of the metal, so I love their recent race to offer sets of full frame ranges in smaller bodies.

Great. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

My reason for picking this Tamron was the price - $680 (15% cash back deal) + tax.

My next lens will be 17-28mm Tammy :-)
