If I want Sapphire Reserve I need to wait 48 months for the Preferred too?
if you apply today, get a bonus hit your account on lets say june 20th, then you will not be elgible for any new SUB bonus for 4 years from that point if it is either CSR or CSP. You can upgrade a year later or downgrade depending on what you have but no bonus will come from that or from applying for a new card for a span of 4 years.

I might qualify then. So it is not the day you cancel but the day you get the bonus?

Yes. If you got your sapphire sub over 48 months ago, then you're eligible for a new sapphire preferred (or reserve) SUB. now as long as you don't own the card

Hefty $550 fee for Reserve, the first year bonus seems worthwhile if I planned to do some serious travel. There's $300 back for booking through them, leaving $250 to claw back. Don't want TSA Precheck, lounges is main appeal to me. No foreign transaction fees, and a few small other niceties. The rest of the benefits like instacart and Lyft seem meh. Preferred card has little appeal to me other than the points.

Question for anyone who keeps this card after the first year payoff, what keeps you paying that stiff fee other than forgetting to cancel or protecting your FICO score?

That's when I signed up for mine! Those were the days.

There was a brief period there where if you signed up in-branch, you got the 100k point offer and a $50 grocery credit.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm in year 1 of the Reserve, and deciding whether to keep it for year 2. The $300 travel credit per year is easy to hit, so I'm choosing between $95 for CSP or $250 for CSR.

Like you, the lounge access is the most important perk to me. It has been a real life saver several times... either to relax in when I'm exhausted during a long layover, or when I'm in a rush and need some quick grub.

Besides that... 5X / 10X points when you book travel through the Chase portal? That's worth something, although half the time it seems like the airfares in the Chase portal are higher than booking directly with the airline. So I dunno.

5x on flights via Chase Travel more than pays for the $250 leftover AF after the $300 travel credit for me.
Pays for my Global Entry.
Lounge access + 2 free guests.
Car rental primary collision/insurance.
3x on dining which is usually 1500+ points per month.
Even more this month with the Freedom Flex getting 7x at restaurants.

I will miss the Priority Pass restaurant benefit ending later this year. That was easy to get value from. Fingers crossed they give us something to make up for that, but not holding my breath.

If you don't travel or dine out a lot this card might not make the most sense for you. But it works well for me.

This card is not a keeper. Out of the current offerings, I think only the CapOne Venture X and the Amex Business Plat worth it for most people, the rest are for churning. Banks got smart and the lifetime and/or family language is almost always there these days. And lounges are crowded anyway. Big Grin

The instacrt benefit is going away and priority lounge access is nerfed and also available on other cards where you make the $ back.

You do get sapphire lounge access that is in certain locations (LGA, BOS etc)

CSRs benefit is the 1.5x points redemption on their travel portal. so $1000 worth points is worth $1500 if you use chase's portal.
CSP does 1.25 x.

CSR also offers Nexus for frequent Canada travelers.

Also I think CSP has no foreign transaction fee either.

You can start with CSP for the points and move to CSR in 12 months but everyone has different needs. Make sure yours local lounges are worth it. Priority lounges can get full in some busy airports and also pretty underwhelming in some cities.

Will my wife qualify if she has been using CSP under mine? She has not received any SUB in the last 4 years.
