I'd rather wait for the Costco deal to come back, as it's $70 cheaper for basically the same performance.

Is your ASUS ROG still available at that price? If not, then what do you want people to do? Deals are based on what people can buy TODAY. It's not even the same product, so why are you comparing? For one, the HP comes with an OLED display which I would take everyday over the ASUS touch display. Second, if you're looking for a more professional/office use laptop, the ASUS isn't it.

I bought this exact HP when it was last on sale for $755. Even at $770, I'd say it's still a good deal, especially if you have any CC offers for statement credit.

I have a HP Pavillion plus with the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and the 120 Hz OLED screen and am quiet happy with it. The OLED screen is really nice and battery life is good (I only use it on battery, so that is important to me). I prefer the U series CPUs vs the HS processor as the HS from my understanding consumes more power and I expect less battery life and constant fan noise. I have an HP Elitebook work laptop with the AMD 6800HS and while the fan noise is not too annoying I have the comparison with my Pavillion plus and would prefer the Pavillion because of that. If you don't care about battery life and noise, then this it is probably a pretty decent laptop for the price. The OLED screen is really gorgeous. The price is good. Keyboard, trackpad, etc. are all good. Not as good as my Surface Laptop but the screen is definitively a noticeable improvement even over the already good Microsoft surface laptop screen.

Thank you for posting an opinion on this, I recently got the Pavilion plus with ryzen 7 7840U and was wondering if I should return it and get this. Was only considering the increase in speed of this vs the extended warranty from costco included in the 7840U, but I also value battery life most as I have a desktop for when I need more power. So I'll just keep my Costco unit with the 7840U. Have been quite happy with it, the keyboard, screen, quality aluminum construction, accurate trackpad, very quiet. Activating game mode with the Omen application does really make a difference. Surprised it can run Jedi survivor at acceptable speed once enabling the Omen game optimization

Anytime I see an HP deal, I'll repeat what I've posted before. The laptops are great but things will sour quickly if you have to deal with customer service. Do a search for HP hinges and you'll see what I mean.
I had a bad experience with the last HP I bought. An HP Envy x360 purchased in 2020. It's the first laptop I've ever used that had the hinges break. It was still under warranty so it got the hinges repaired. But HP sent it back with a dent in one corner. The damage must have occurred before packaging because the laptop was secure in all the packaging and there was no box damage. I tried to get it repaired again but got tired of the back and forth with customer service about what happened, why it happened, where it happened, when it happened, etc. and decided to cut my losses. I sold that laptop and got a different brand. Up until it broke, I really liked that laptop but I won't be buying from HP again. They made it as difficult as possible to get any help when they should have bent over backwards. The other issue was they initially told me it was going to be a 2 month repair time because of back-ordered parts, which should tell you about the number of hinge breaks they were dealing with.
