In the market for a good filter. Is this any good? Want to move away from bottled water. Tap water in our state is considered good, but I'd still prefer additional filtering mostly for inorganic content with cumulative buildup effect. Also, how hard it is to install this and is it costly/labor-intensive to maintain it? Thanks

I have used APEC water filters for a few years now. I should replace the filters more often but it's still consistently getting close to 0 TDS. This is a great deal but I would be mindful of the tank size if you have a large family. I've attached a permeate pump on mine to reduce the brine waste.

Once you install an RO system, you won't ever go back to bottled water. You'll even cook everything with RO water. It's pretty simple to install and if you're missing something just hop over to your local hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, or Ace Hardware for me). They pretty much have all the fittings and Amazon surely has the obscure ones. I've even attached splitters to attach a separate valve. If you live an apartment, you don't need to drill a hole in your sink, just create an output valve that connects to your tank.

I can't recommend APEC enough, all their canisters are pretty much standard so you can replace filters with standard off the shelf sizes, including the RO filter. Dow Filmtec fits in mine.

Don't worry about missing minerals in your water. People who say RO water absorbs/absorbs minerals from your body haven't distilled water and seen the miniscule amount of 'stuff' left in the water and that it doesn't make a big difference when your stomach already has junk it in anyway.

Thanks for your input. Lots of terms and concepts, so I guess I will need to do my homework before jumping on this. Also, it seems like I will need to drill a hole in my granite countertop for the small faucet.

I see you added quite a bit of info - thank you again. Mind elaborating on the output valve? Also, given a lot of supplemental materials, what should I expect for the total installation cost? And lastly, once you settled in, what's your monthly/yearly expenses to maintain this setup?

This one has higher flow rate at the tap. comes with a larger connection 3/8" instead of 1/4". Also, higher output 90GPD vs. 50 GPD.

Is it possible to simply replace the RO membrane with a higher flow one? (eg.: 150GPD)
