Really hoping for another 2 for $550 deal on these. The golds @ 18TB are also on sale at a comparable price.

Yes, but I wouldn't try it unless you have a clean room. Exposed platters don't like dust.
Shucking is removing a drive from an external hard drive's enclosure. This isn't an external drive, it's an internal drive, so this is meant for putting right into a PC tower or a NAS/DAS etc.

Yep, that's the deal to hold out for, I think the red has better performance than the gold but I could be wrong. The key is that ~$15 per terabyte rule of thumb so the ideal price would be $270 for an 18TB drive but that seems rare.

Amazing! !8T is far more storage than we had in our entire data center that cost many millions of $$$ back in 1978. And this is on one device. Memories...

I'm hoping for the same. Last BF was $500 less AMZN card 5% for 2x16Tb. So I figure +10% for +4Tb would be awesome today, especially if you expect capacity constraint in the near term.

Just a heads up, WD's RMA process changed a bit. It used to be far more consumer friendly, but now you have to pay a non-refundable $25 "advanced replacement fee" + shipping + credit hold to get a drive first. That's important if you need the new drive to move data off your old drive before sending in. They used to just do a credit hold. And half the time they won't waive the fee or shipping.

I've always been team WD, so I don't know how that compares, but it's something to keep in mind. 3 of my 8 red drives recently got CRC read errors in my server at the 2 year mark. All were the same "batch" (purchased together). Not sure WD quality is what it used to be.

Definitely wait for a better deal though.
