waiting for the 505 deal to come back.
most that have atmos will take advantage of it, so i'd say 99% of 4k movies, if you have 9.2 speaker setup

Sorry, I'm a bit outdated. Last AV receiver I bought was 5.1 Are there movies that take advantage of 9.2 or are the other channels just duplicated?

I need the 505 because it has preouts for the channels to add an amp.

If you watch UHD movies often they have object based soundtracks.
In that case object based soundtracks can support up to 34 channels.

Usually the most optimal in the average home is 5.1.4.

Receivers with Dolby Atmos lets you calibrate upward and/or downward firing speakers.
It adds just a bit more depth to the audio.

There's probably more content that makes use of the Rear Surround channels than the Rear Height channels.

That's two different contents.

Biggest challenge with 7.1 is in the average home optimal placement isn't often capable/possible.

With object based content imo 2 pairs is pretty much mandatory, not worth it if you can't/won't imo

Big question...when is the lx505 going on sale? Usually these 2 have promotional pricing around the same time.

I bought this few months ago as it was in my price range …I did configure dirac live with the mic setup but I don't really feel the sound coming out of the speakers even when I keep volume at 75% …am I missing something?

Since Dirac Live does not include their own bass management/integration, it relies on the AVRs.
Setting those parameters prior to running Dirac is highly recommended.

Here is a very helpful video from an AV professional that worked directly with Dirac for these very helpful tips & tricks.
