Vine reviewers don't always give 5-star, right?

2 for 2 this time
Not Always no
But getting something free (or other payment) does tend to skew/bias the review, which is why they are required to disclose they are compensated

Thank you for the comments and downvotes...

Meanwhile, a similar, less powerful but more expensive product, with no verifiable reviews is on the front page...

Valid comparison.
I didn't TD your post. Just commented on the low review count as I think it's useful info.
The FP deal is posted (ie promoted) by a Paid SD Staff Influencer so that always gets more visibility (...and maybe boosted TUs).
This one may well get some traction in time. Regardless of reception, appreciate you posting it 👍

Your points are valid and appreciated, but they apply to many products on Amazon, while other sites with no open review process (e.g. BuyDig) get an automatic pass on this.

To me, the key positive of this product is that it is UL-certified. While this is not perfect, that generally guarantees a certain build quality reliability, and safety level.

We will see - I have ordered one for my garage, and I will report back.

Doesn't matter.
These devices just pass through AC current from your home to your car. As long as the discovery process works and the connector fits well… it works. The computing inside the "charger" is nothing… it's done using a 50 cent microcontroller, with software that's been open sourced.

This charger has the features of the fancier products with apps that let you remotely control your charger, see who's using it, limit access and stuff like that, but you don't need any of that; most cars include the same features anyway, like "start charging at 1AM" or "start charging so that it finishes by 6AM" (which is best). So it doesn't matter that the smart phone app doesn't work well… you don't need it at all.

Is there any way to turn off or defeat the RFID card thing? Where I would mount this would not be conducive to having to swipe a card to activate it...

You assume its UL certified. Some how this has all the certifications, odds are some of them dont even exist. No name brand has UL and CE certs, its either or.

Now search for a name brand battery charger brand like Schumacher or EMPORIA...

Lol this is not a charger its an EVSE. Any company that brands an EVSE as a charger calls into question everything else about the company

Regarding UL, one can only go by what they are stating in their advertising and on the packaging. On the third image it states/claims that it is UL certified. Also, the MSRP suggests that it is in the same league as some better chargers.

No, one can assume that all these zero review china name knock offs of any product will put every cert on the page to get sales. I bet this has 8k and is 10,000 lumens too.

Its real easy to search for certs, this manufacture has none.
