Told myself that I would not buy a 16:9 laptop but this is hard to pass up.

I am torn on this price and Samsung's in general (PCs). If you have Total Tech you can extend the warranty for free and that is good since Samsung's is traditionally poor for laptops.

The negative is these units seem to have the fabled touch screen cracking issue. I wonder if they also have the touchpad issues with heat? I saw this pointed on previous SD's for this unit and I personally had the issue on my Samsung Chromebook 2 or whatever it is with a 4K screen.

The last thing is, 1080/FHD is pretty low for this day and age. I get it, this is ~$100-200 less than previous deals (or close to it); yet, also used and it looks a bit clunky.

The touch screen issue is only on the Pro versions AFAIK. I have had the book2 360 for well over a year and travelled with it a lot. The screen is gorgeous and it works with my Tab S Pen.

Thanks OP. I picked up a fair condition for $420. That was the only one of any condition within 250 miles of me.

See what condition it's in when I pick it up later today.

edit: I did have to search for it in their outlets page - it didn't show up on the laptops page for some reason. I filtered by laptop and Samsung then looked through different locations near me.

I love my Galaxy book 360. I have the OG one (bought at Bestbuy Black Friday 2021) and knock on wood haven't had the screen cracking issue yet. Super lightweight which is great for me as I carry it around the hospital for medical school and for class. It's lighter than any MacBook and I wanted a touch screen. Some people ask me what laptop I have when they hold it as it's really light. Runs about 8 hours with Citrix (running Powerchart medical record) in the background. I can get a full day most of the time but not as good as a MacBook due to M chip (Apple) vs older Intel chip tech. Things that are annoying are the 1st gen the speakers are kinda bad. They started intermittently making the crackling sound.

Like you I did have the touch digitizer malfunction on my Samsung Chromebook Plus as well. Rendered it practically dead. Samsung warranty is also a joke so if the screen crack issue is a big deal I'd see if you can get an extended warranty.

What puts Apple apart is the service. I've yet to find a windows OEM manufacturer that actually cares about service. Dell, HP, Samsung, Asus, Microsoft all have really bad product support after purchase

Thank you for the write-up!

I might take a ride down to the BB and pick this up to see how it looks. I am really looking for a replacement for my Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 (pro whatever it is); however, it is super light. My MBP 2011 and now MBP 2024 (14") feels 3-5x heavier than the chromebook is and of course it has a much nicer keyboard, screen (non-touch), and processor. The battery is also amazing on the MBP with the M3Pro.

I have sent dozens of Dell systems in for repair on the consumer side - mostly clean although sometimes the units need to go back. My issue with the new Dell systems is the touchpad and mouse clickers. They feel so firm.

There are some people who claim that 16:10 is vastly superior to 16:9 even if they couldn't tell the difference unless they saw the two screens side by side. They are so absurdly similar on a small screen it isn't even worth talking about. For example these [ytimg.com] are probably 15.6" screens and even here it is hard to spot the difference. Your windows won't scale (functionally) any different either nor does that extra 1/2" of screen in one direction allow any extra productivity.

The only time I think it actually matters (ish) is for gaming or maybe content creation. Some programs might not support a certain ratio. Now, who is hardcore gaming or content creating on a 2-in-1's built in screen is a different conversation.

Buy the one you like the most (of course) however the people impacted by the difference is not worth drawing a line in the sand over...

The extra height of 16:10 makes it more productive than 16:9 especially on a 13" laptop.

Definitely. 16:9 might be good for watching video and for gaming, but for everything else it sucks. Note the black area at the bottom of the Samsung screens that could accommodate a 16:10 screen and are a constant reminder what you're missing.

BTW, Samsung laptops have very poor resale value, so these open-box deals are a good way to not lose your shirt if you ever plan on selling or trading in. I would advise on ever buying a new one, even on a slick deal. Been there, done that, bad memories.
