It's equally fast to this chip for desktop and gaming functions. It's just a little slower at workstation tasks like video editing or CAD that most people don't utilize anyway. The biggest advantage is that the LGA1700 socket gives you an upgrade path all the way up to the fastest processor currently available (i9-13900KS). That's an upgrade potential of 40% faster for desktop computing and 120% faster workstation ability, which is a virtually unheard of upgrade potential.

That's probably a good point if that manifests. I haven't heard news about how long the AM5 socket will be supported.
I'm no expert on the latest Ryzens, but a quick search seems to show a Ryzen 5 7600 as the lowest current model fitting the AM5. That's a $230 chip versus about $125 for the i3-12100 and a vastly superior cooler. Still if a person values the 20% faster capability of the AMD and integrated graphics, it might make the most sense.
