Not terrible deal for decent quality. Components can be upgraded if you want. I'm sure that July 4th, Labor Day, and Black Friday deals for 13th gen I5 and RTX 4060 will be somewhat better, but this for $829 (pre tax gag) at this time is pretty fair for HP Omen. Power supply is more than adequate. List price is clearly inflated. Yes you can always build something yourself and save a few bucks and let us all know that you are better at everything than we are. There might be Amex/CC offers but I couldn't find anything for my cards.

The $800-$900 range is a real crapshoot right now.
If you hold out a couple months and try to set aside a bit more, the prebuilts in the $900-$1000 range offer fewer compromises.
For instance, let's just assume nobody is going to be happy with 512GB of storage, so you'll be spending another $70-$120 for a new drive right off the bat.

I've owned my share of computers over the years; and have had way more disappointment from HP than anything else.
The brands may or may not be great for upgrading; but I've found sub-standard and junk in my HPs too many times.

I see your point. I however have had the grace of not having issues with my purchase of HP (2), and they have been incredibly solid. 1 purchase was 1Tb Additional HD and the os was on a 256gb nvme which was FAST FAST, the cpu was i7 11gen and gpu was 3080. The other was 1GB nvme and a 2bTB. Cpu was i7 12gen gpu was also the same 3080. Only thing was the Ram, Both set up had 16GB which I didn't like but still a good deal. Both machines avg about 1.100 with taxes. The i7 11gen came with Monitor too. I though it was a solid deal with a + 24 inch ips monitor. The Ram upgrade tho, both got upgraded later on that same year to 64g DDr4. Spent less than 100 on the sticks. So pretty much an awesome deal. But yes, Dell and HP have been know to slack on some builds, which I see your point, it's a hit or miss.

1) Omen Software - This is hit or miss. Based on some issues I've had and issues that have been reported on the Internet, I would recommend turning off booster features.
2) RAM - If you want to go the easy route, upgrade it to the amount of RAM you want when you order the computer. It will cost more but upgrading later is a pain. HP has no easy way to order matching additional RAM. You can't do it from the website- you have to call Customer Support. Even then, they either don't know the correct upgrade or they are out of stock. The other option is to just pull the original RAM and completely replace it with whatever you've bought. They have unlocked XMP profiles in the BIOS now, so it is possible. You can't mix the original RAM with any non-HP RAM. Even if it's the exact same brand name. I tried that with some Kingston Fury Beast. Even though it was the exact same brand/model/specs it would produce Memtest errors when used together (the individual sticks were fine).
Planning on transplanting the system to a larger mesh case a long with GPU upgrade from 3080 to 3090.
