I spent some time reading about this saw, and it gets pretty good reviews as a homeowner chainsaw. Reviews say it's a little heavy because it has more metal components than other comparable homeowner saws. No it's not a Swedish made Husqvarna, but it's also not priced like one.
20 inch bar, reputable brand, case included, at this price... this is a great find OP.
What the what??? Let's take a look at each of your points above:
- Battery power chainsaws still need chain tension adjusted
- Battery power chainsaws still need bar oil to be monitored and refilled
- Comes with oil mix for 1 gallon gas = super simple to refuel
- Since when does a new saw's carb need to be adjusted? Mine worked perfectly out of box.
- Battery power chainsaws still need chains to be sharpened after significant use
Agreed with your initial point that "24" is a big tree for a new chainsaw user", but none of your points back this up! Going with a battery-powered chainsaw rather than gas does not make cutting a tree easier or safer than gas for a novice or an expert.

Not sure why so much hate on Poulan. Maybe the new stuff is trash but I have a 42cc Poulan pro with the standard 18" bar. I'm gonna guess it's over 15 years old and I use it fairly regularly. I lightly file the chain every 2 tank fulls and use good 2 cycle oil and ethanol free gas. I have had to adjust the carb every 2 years or so (simple tune). Starts easy on the second pull. If you are going to own a chainsaw (or any 2 cycle product) you need to learn how to maintain it.
Sure I wish I had a Stihl 500i but I don't have $1700 to spend.

No Poulan hate from me. I've got an old "Wild Thing" P4018WT I bought as a refurb that I use routinely as my light saw. It starts reliably even after a lot of use. I did have to replace the fuel lines, but that's routine on saws as they age.
Bought a slightly used 50cc Poulan for $30 4 years ago. Case is worth $30. The owner could not keep it running. I installed a carb for $15 and it works good. Not perfect, but good. One thing with that 50cc is the plug gap. Cant remember the gap but changing it per a chainsaw forums recommendations made it start as it should. btw - My little 35cc Echo kiks arse and does 95% of cutting 2 cords of oak a year. Muffler mod and tune woke it up.
Anyway, this MTD for occasional use I guess, not for me though. Power to weight ratio alone is horrible. 3.7 reviews on Lowes.

What is MTD? Craftsman is part of Stanley Black & Decker, which owns no chain saw brand as far as I can tell on their website. I've never heard of MTD.
So the question remains, who makes this because most likely Craftsman hasn't made their own small engine in 50 years.

Arboristsite reports this saw has an aluminum crankcase (not plastic), removable cylinder, and adjustable oiler.
