Is this a good deal? Haven't heard of the brand and the Amazon reviews aren't great

Single hose is usually frowned upon here. But for the price and claimed BTU, I think it's reasonable. Spec sheet says under 900w so definitely doable with a small generator in case of power outage.

I'm Considering this for daytime use in case of power outage - and as ac for a second br.

Single hose - BUYER BEWARE. These are extremely inefficient as they PULL IN HOT HUMID AIR into your house. If you absolutely must go with a portable stand up unit then get a Dual-hose unit! No exceptions! Wait for a SlickDeal on one of them.

☝️ This! I don't understand why companies still make portable units with single hoses.

Frowned upon, yes. But for those of us who actually don't have much floor space or a deep wallet, single-hose works perfectly fine unless you're dealing with 100+ degree temps or trying to maximize efficiency but also can't use a window mount unit.

Im experimenting with small-factor single unit steam turbine power generation units. Im curious if I burn a single tire if that will create enough BTU's to operate this single-hose AC unit for two hours per tire burned. As this is a private venture, Im not subject to EPA regulations; Im basically like Sri Lanka or China and I can do whatever I want. Especially in the name of science! But seriously, I think I can outmatch solar efficiency and cost by burning trash and tires.

I'm considering this for occasionally taking the hot edge off in my two car garage when working on equipment in there. Seems a bit small for that but the single hose wouldn't be an issue considering garage already humid and it's a freaking garage, so not like that's a huge factor. Seems like it would work.

I considered this type of unit for that use-case as well but I saved up and got a mini-split instead. I think I paid $650 installed (or maybe a little cheaper) from FB Marketplace. If I turn on the AC around 7am, the garage is cool until about noon. It gets warm between 1-5 but again cools down after 5p. I live in TX.

The biggest challenge for this unit in a garage will be the hot exhaust. Not sure how/where you're planning to plumb that hot air out.
