The 255 & 265 are the go to Garmin's I recommend (runners, cyclists, triathletes)
The 255 Music is $300 (and comes in black)
The 265 is always $360 on Garmin with the 20% off Optimity discount. It's essentially a 255 Music but with an OLED screen (and Training Readiness metric).

The new 165 also has an OLED screen but is geared exclusively to runners, so it's missing a lot of features from the 255/265 (ie. no multisport mode, no power meter support, etc.). Watch a DCRainMaker or DesFit review for further break down.

I had the 255 Music before returning for a 265. They've both continued to get software updates adding some new metrics that aren't covered in the original reviews and are great multisport watches alongside the more premium 955/965; the days of needing a Fenix/Epix for triathlons are over. Obviously buy from REI since they have a 90 day return policy for members.
Download the app, do a couple surveys, redeem for 20% off at Garmin for certain watches or their Index scale. Similar promo codes are thru a lot of insurances.

great watches! I had a 255 before I decided to jump on the 265 AMOLED screen; everything is the same minus that screen. The 255 is a great and accurate watch and you get better battery life than the 265, but man is that 265 screen great to look at.highly recommend.

The great thing about the 255 screen is that it can be on while emitting zero light at night, unlike the 265 AMOLED. I see that as an advantage for 24/7 wearers. I have a 245 and have loved it for years, I'm having to talk myself out of this deal because the 245 still works so well.

Tried the 265 and liked it a lot, but ended up returning it for the Epix Pro and I love this watch. I never liked the old non Amoled screens as I always found them to be to dim.

Been wanting to try a Garmin to replace my broken Fitbit Sense. I don't run but walk / hike a lot. Not sure if I should get this or wait for a deal on an epix/fenix. The ecg & maps would be nice to have.

Unless a cardiologist suggested you should be doing at home EKG's; the feature is a novelty. In that case there's also arguably better independent devices (ie. $100 Kardia "6 lead").

Mapping is definitely useful if you're doing ultras/trail runs and pretty out there hikes -- personally I'd rec the Forerunner 955/965 over the Fenix/Epix, I think DCRainMaker had a similar opinion.

The 265 screen dim's so incredibly low it basically throws off 0 light. Also out of the box it turns off the screen after a few seconds when in sleep mode. The newly added (to 265) Red Shift mode is pretty neat for general nighttime use also.

I've had afib a couple times in the past, so kinda gives me peace of mind. Prefer not to carry my kardia around outside the house, but its not a must. The mapping seems more useful but realistically I'm probably fine just using my phone for that.

Great watch. Best price for the latest GPS tracking tech. I used this model to go rim 2 rim 2 rim in the Grand Canyon. Only struggled with GPS signal one time, (North Rim, pretty normal place to struggle). Very happy with it!

Very accurate. Within a couple tenths of a mile of the official NPS mileage.
