im a fan of the geared style loppers. ive cut 2.5-3" branches with some finesse with those. nice to just have the loppers with me when im out on trails vs carrying a saw.

IME: these are very light duty. With the telescoping feature, the tubing the handles is made from is quite thin. I deformed mine. I should have warrantied them, but didn't bother.
