Wow.
It's unfortunate out of control spending budgets have come to this. But, somewhere, somehow, there's some true fiscal conservative saying "see, I told ya so.". The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

IOUs happen every budget cycle since we recalled Davis for telling us that we had to pick between minimal taxes and minimal services or higher taxes and fuller services.
Personally, if I were king I'd make a law that anyone who voted for the idiot who got us in power had to be the first to suffer. So I hope the first IOUs go out to Orange County! You gotta love what the City of Los Angeles is doing. They put a survey online asking city residents to vote for what services they think should be cut. I think that's a brilliant idea. It's well and good to talk all this blather about "fiscal conservatism" and "government has to live within its means." But it's stupid and meaningless when you really think about it. I think every budget cycle, the people should have to vote. The ballot would look like this: VOTE FOR EITHER A OR B A 1% tax cut B Close 100 libraries or A 1% tax cut B 20,000 kids will be denied admission to college or A 1% tax cut B If your house is burning down, don't expect a fire truck. Start peeing! I think the real cost of tax cuts will be quite evident then. Last edited by lobo411; 12-31-2008 at 05:31 PM.. I wouldn't be to worried. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing has lots of printing presses and I'm sure is ordering more. At this point what's another 20 50 or 100 billion bailout? Of course they'll go back for more, but so will the banks and so will the autos and anyone else so inclined.
Who knows, there may come a point in the near future that the government issues each house hold it's own printing press. We'll just get up in the morning run off what we need and go off to the utopia we're creating. Free money for everyone one, right? |

They haven't issued iou's "every budget cycle"....... And your partisan view of taxes and services is admirable, but incorrect..... The punishment that government is going to hand out to taxpayers in California, in the way of cutting back libraries, police services, etc., is the oldest ploy in the book. Teach us a lesson for not wanting even higher taxes and "fees" then we already pay. They'll show us!! Cut back other non essential programs, including many of the politician's favorites, most of which should not exist at all? Cut back salaries and retirements for government workers, which have risen to levels unheard of in the private sector? Stop providing services to illegal aliens? No way!!! They've been doing this forever. I'm leaving here soon to get away from these a-holes. Hope you make enough money someday to really enjoy your beloved taxes.....

You might want to update your information. Texas and Georgia both pay more in Taxes to the federal government than they receive back. I, personally, would have no problems seeing all of the red states lose their overage revenue from the government. I personally think they would manage better than CA receiving it's overpayments back. Heck, Texas, pays $1 for every 0.94 it receives from the fed gov't, yet still has managed to have a budget surplus [dallasnews.com] all this time. As far back as 2001, FL was also sending more to Uncle Sam than it was receiving [ppinys.org]. Nothing makes up for a lean budget and good fiscal sense, in good times or in bad. Moreover, this really seems to be an issue that relates more to federal taxation and the location of where most of the income is derived in this country, than anything else.

Who does he think he is? The way California hands out unemployment benefits to those who don't deserve them, (along with so many other entitlements), it's not surprising they're out of money..... Wonder what the Dems are going to do when even more companies leave the state? I guess they'll just expect the other 49 states to support their drunken sailor spending habits..... |

Wow... maybe I'd be better off in Caifornia? We don't get many services, actually close to none, and our sales tax is 10% and the state is in a deficit of nearly 1 billion. I'd take Cali's climate and lifestyle over banjo's and deep-fried food anyday.
So last time IOU's were sent was under Pete Wilson... he was an (R), right? Odd coincidence there. McBub.com sells fraudulent copies of products while advertising them as original, AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

And they've done IOU's a couple of times. Usually when the Republicans, or a Republican Governor, are holding up passage of the budget, trying to get the Democrats to make more cuts. This time, it's going to be because they're out of money..... because of the same reasons though....

Several of the large cities in Texas have taken California's approach and become "sanctuary" cities for illegal aliens. I would predict Texas's budget surplus to start disappearing, and taxes in the state to rise in the future. The days of the "blue dog" conservative democrats are dying off, and Texas will spin down into the toilet as California has, as the illegal alien lobby takes more and more control. If you're looking for a state with good prospects in the future, pick one without a large agricultural or services related economy. |

The federal bite hasn't really increased, as a percentage of GDP, since about 1960. OTOH state and local shares have about doubled. |
