Science is much more than a body of knowledge. It is a way of thinking. This is central to its success. Science invites us to let the facts in, even when they don’t conform to our preconceptions.

your link is from Jan 2005 "Thanks to the available findings of a 2006 study showing that cannabis actually reduces the number of cancer cells, medical marijuana [naturalsociety.com] users can now feel even better about the widely abolished pain relief ingredient found in the plant. The relationship between marijuana and cancer has always been up for debate, but with the use of a specially crafted oil made from the buds of the Cannabis Sativa plant, scientists confirmed that the plant’s primary psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) destroys any and all malignant cancer cell growths in several patients. Details on the marijuana and cancer prevention connection aren’t exactly known, but further, more extensive testing will reveal exactly what may be causing this seemingly miracle cure." Marijuana Found to Kill Cancer Cells – The Marijuana and Cancer Relationship [naturalsociety.com] " One of the popular misconceptions is that smoking marijuana is just like smoking tobacco and increases your risk of developing lung cancer. In 2006, the American Thoracic Society presented in a conference on May 23 the results of their study on the link between lung cancer and cannabis smoking. The results of the study were surprising as it proved that there was no link between smoking cannabis and lung cancer. Even the heaviest cannabis smokers did not have increased risk of developing lung cancer. In a more recent, similar study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers examined 5,115 men and women over the course of two decades to further analyze the relationship between marijuana use and lung cancer. Interestingly, not only did the researchers find that marijuana had no negative impact on lung use [naturalsociety.com], but that the plant may slightly increase lung airflow rates . A different study performed by the American Association of Cancer Research proved that marijuana slows down tumor growth, thus aiding in the prevention of cancer of the lungs, brains, and breasts. This study and many others proved that smoking cannabis is at the very least not near as dangerous to your health as most people think. In fact, the effects of cannabis are quite the opposite. Cannabis has been shown to possess many more more health benefits than previously thought." http://naturalsociety.com/cannabis-marijuana/ " Add one more data point to the decades-old debate over marijuana legalization: A new study concludes that casual pot smoking - up to one joint per day - does not affect the functioning of your lungs. The study, published in the Jan. 11 edition of Journal of the American Medical Association, also offered up a nugget that likely will surprise many: Evidence points to slight increases in lung airflow rates and increases in lung volume from occasional marijuana use." A "non-issue"? If this information reached the public, it would certainly reinforce the case that it's time to legalize cannabis, seeing as how alcohol is legal. And you know how prisons are privatized, right? Don't you see how keeping pot illegal allows them more "business"? Are you really unable to connect the dots?
I've provided the research...why don't you take a look? I mean you're already on SD...it's not like you "don't have the time"... |

You and the rest of the legalize-our-dope crowd couldn't give a northbound rat's southend about the connection between lung cancer and dope. You just want legalization so that you have easy access to your dope so you can get stoned without getting cited or arrested. |

Why can't you connect the dots?
(and btw I live in CA dude...pot is everywhere...and police don't act like it's heroin like they do in other states. They have a much more common sense approach than most people. So no, my motivation is not for easy access to pot, it's to have common sense prevail. There is no common sense reason to keep pot illegal if alcohol has been legal for decades.) See the below pic for the REAL reasons pot is still illegal here. Now there, I have responded to your post even though you did not answer the questions I had asked you previously. Once again: A "non-issue"? If this information reached the public, it would certainly reinforce the case that it's time to legalize cannabis, seeing as how alcohol is legal. And you know how prisons are privatized, right? Don't you see how keeping pot illegal allows them more "business"? Are you really unable to connect the dots? I would definitely use MJ if it were legal, I don't now because of job situation, nothing else. Legalization is a moral issue to me. I don't care about extra tax revenue (govt will get used to spending it and we are back to square one) or any other shallow pro-pot arguments. Legalization means less money for drug cartels, less murders, less crimes and fewer people in jail for non-violent drug crimes. But you heard all this before and don't care for real discussion so I don't know why I am even posting. |
