I remember about 10 years or so ago everyone talked about Gold being the safest place to be.. i.e. dividends little movement etc.. a place to hold your investments immediately prior to retirement.

But then gold starting to hit big gains from 2009 on.. All you have to do is look at a GLD (Spider Gold Trust). Anyone who's held gold for sometime gained some major $$ the over the past couple years.

I was actually thinking it was longer.. I originally typed in 10 years but started thinking about the comparison between the S&P 500 vs Gold. While everything was getting slaughtered back in 08/09 Gold was skyrocketing. So that's what sticks out to me.

I specifically remember a guy preparing to retire about a decade ago telling me how he was placing everything in gold. At the time I thought, safe move, pretty smart. Now I think about how much he actually probably made.

Not sure I seen any problem here. Except a very smart investor.

Since besides making some good investments, Paul has been a physician for 50 years, a net worth of "2.1 to 5.2 million" doesn't sound like a huge fortune, in case the OP was insinuating that.
