Penn State Removes Joe Paterno Statue

They had to make it hurt and hurt bad. It is unfortunate that a small number of students may also suffer some consequences from the punishment but that can't be a reason to give a limited punishment. This will hopefully be a deterrent for Penn State and other universities not to let something like this happen in the future. If the entire university didn't have to share in the punishment then all they would have to do for any future scandals would be to throw out a scapegoat to shoulder all the blame and the university could keep on riding high.

They don't release a murderer just because his kids' lives will be disrupted if he is put in prison.

Punish the innocent to get to the guilty....

I think some people are having a hard time separating a person's profession from the person himself..

Paterno as a coach was proven as extrodinary

Paterno as a person well that is debateable

If Paterno was sitting around raping kids by using his coaching position, I can see why they want to strip him of his wins.. But whatever Sandusky was doing he was doing in his own PRIVATE foundation that has noting to do with Paterno, was Paterno even involved in Sandusky foundation?

Not that I give two shits bout Paterno, but really the need to "pretend" to do something is stupid.
Anyone going to hold those kids and parents for not coming forward sooner to save others from Sandusky? These weren't kids many were teenagers, and yet they choose to keep quiet..
You can't punish and hold someone accountable WITHOUT victims, and since these victims never came forward in a timely manner why is it someone elses responsibility to try to punish someone

Again I'm still waiting for everyone from the Franklin Scandal to be punished ( but that won't happen since it was a GOV'T sanctioned and runned rape ring )

To stay with the analogy, what crime did the murderer's kids commit to warrant losing their dad? Sometimes life just isn't fair.

We're not throwing the kid in jail. Growing up with a parent in jail is simply the new reality he has to face after his father commits a crime.

If his father murdered someone, and as a result, we took away his kids athletic scholarship, that would be a better but still borderline analogy.

Suddenly take away a dad from a family and his income along with it and you don't think the lives of the kids are going to suffer substantially? It is sad but unfortunately it is one of the side-effects of punishment.

All the football players are free to transfer to any other Division 1 FBS school without having to sit out for 1 year...thus no punishment for Penn State football players.

And there are no students being prevented from getting financial aid. The NCAA is just limiting the number of FOOTBALL first year scholarships that PENN STATE is allowed to give out...lowering it from 25 to 15. Every other DIVISION 1 FBS school is limited to only 25 initial first year football scholarships. Are students at those schools also being denied financial aid as well?

Do those schools get an additional scholarship credited to the school?


Unless those 10 scholarships are being spread around somewhere else, 10 kids are going to have to take out loans when they otherwise would have received scholarships.

Those kids probably had nothing to do with this awfulness.
