If one has to abide intolerance to be considered tolerant, then the word loses it's meaning.

The kids not getting scholarships to play a sport didn't cover anything up, or contribute in any way, shape, or form. I can see penalties aimed at those involved, or designed to help the victims ($fines$), but preventing students from getting financial aid? Seems to take the focus off of those involved, and place it on the school's reputation in general, as if EVERYONE in the school had a hand in it. |

Ryu, whatever you did when writing this post please try to do it more in the future. It isn't all that bad. Looks like you started to lose it at the end but you did manage to stop before running it off the edge of the cliff. Nice work
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

You think someone is going to charge Sandusky when there was NO victims who came forward.. Are they just going to hold a kangaroo court to charge him? You can't charge someone without a VICTIM, and it seem alot of these kids and parents where complicit in keeping Sandusky secret. If the victim(s) didn't bother talking, who going to hold anyone responsible..? I didn't read any victim testimony that Sandusky had threaten and of his victims to keep quiet? So there was never any excuse for them to stay quiet allowing Sandusky to continue prey upon newer victims.. |

If his father murdered someone, and as a result, we took away his kids athletic scholarship, that would be a better but still borderline analogy. |
|
|
Suddenly take away a dad from a family and his income along with it and you don't think the lives of the kids are going to suffer substantially? It is sad but unfortunately it is one of the side-effects of punishment. |
|
|
The degree of suffering is not relevant, it's wheter a person is directly doing something to punish you (students), or if you are harmed because someone you rely on is punished. |

All the football players are free to transfer to any other Division 1 FBS school without having to sit out for 1 year...thus no punishment for Penn State football players. And there are no students being prevented from getting financial aid. The NCAA is just limiting the number of FOOTBALL first year scholarships that PENN STATE is allowed to give out...lowering it from 25 to 15. Every other DIVISION 1 FBS school is limited to only 25 initial first year football scholarships. Are students at those schools also being denied financial aid as well? ![]() ![]()

Those kids probably had nothing to do with this awfulness. |

Second, the same thing could be said for any other school that is limited to 25 first year scholarships. If a school is limited to only 25 first year scholarships, then the rest of the freshman players are "going to have to take out loans when they otherwise would have received scholarships" if the school was allowed 35 or 45 of 55 first year scholarships. |

People need to face the fact:
If someone has the choice to choose a college ( when they are not those rare academic geniuses ), usually choose based on: 1) the athletic programs of the school 2) its party atmosphere There are reasons why many colleges want Div 1 sports program, it is nationwide advertisement and beings alot of attention to the college itself, also alot of money. Some of the most well-stock colleges aren't because they deserved it due to the fields of academics but because their sport's programs generate so much money they are allow to splurge on things that they might no necessary be able to afford. |
|
Furthermore, any athlete offered a football scholarship at a DIVISION 1 school like PSU is highly likely to be offered scholarships at other DIVISION 1 schools as well. So stop trying to paint a picture of potential athletes being deprived of financial aid. Its only 10 per year for 4 years. That's 40 players who most likely have multiple scholarship offers anyhow.

Maybe I am missing something ..... but is there conclusive evidence that JP knew about what went on and purposefully turned a blind eye?
I'm not really a FB fan and I don't care about PSU or whoever, but AFAIK there is no solid evidence that the guy knew anything. Now we can sit around and say "he must have known" (circumstantial inference) but the guy is dead. I am not a fan of prosecuting people when they can't be around to answer accusations. |
