Colbert has an opinion.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/0...urd-pizza/ Science is much more than a body of knowledge. It is a way of thinking. This is central to its success. Science invites us to let the facts in, even when they don’t conform to our preconceptions.

I enjoyed Bethany Mandel's article on this:

you know if the conservatives were so against Obamacare, maybe they should issue a solution to our current problem.. Instead what do they do, they drag dumb ass stories of how gov't failed one person and use that as a shining example of how bad everything is
Cause accordng to them there is no solution and its better for you to just die... By the way its going to raise the pizza price by FOURTEEN CENTS.... We should just tax all these junk food and be over with it... Since Papa John got no problem feeding us crap and then complain when people get sick from eating his crap .. |
|
I'm sure there are liberals that would like to regulate the calories per pizza as part of the health care plan. This would pay for itself twice. Once by reducing the cost of total materials in the pizza, and a second time by the increased health of people eating less pizza.
ETA: Ryu sorta beat me to it. But I predicted the wrong response. The argument is we should be taxing junk food anyway. If I appear to be ignoring your posts, it's probably because you are on my ignore list.

1) If you think it's just conservatives that are against Obamacare, you must live in a leftist fantasy world 2) If you don't think they have offered alternatives, see above. 3) You really don't want to go there when it comes to sob stories from individual Americans, especially around election time, do you? 4) What conservatives have a stated position that the alternative to Obamacare is for everyone to die. 5) Taxing junk food would disproportionately affect the poor and middle class. Is that the Leftist platform to raise their taxes disproportionately? Better check that memo again. 6) If you think Papa John's is crap. like I do, then there are plenty of alternatives. |

That being said, end corn subsidies and sugar tariffs. |

you know if a small business owner is worried about how Obamacare is going to raise their cost, that is understandable
When a BILLION dollar company whines and cries about not wanting to pay for their low wage employees healthcare, that is absolutely despicable You telling me a BILLION dollar company is too farking poor to pay for their employees health insurance.. What they should have done is mandated that ALL companies listed on the stock exchange must provide health insurance to their employees... Because at the end of the day why should someone or anyone who works for a BILLION dollar company still need to have gov't social services? Its a shame that RICH FARKING COMPANIES pass the burden of their low wage employees on to the gov't while their boss and managers reap the rewards of their greed. There is NO excuse for a public listed company to be too farking poor to offer their employees health insurance Last edited by Ryu-bom; 08-09-2012 at 10:53 AM.. |

Say the average (median) wage earner makes 20K per year. The CEO makes $2.75 million. http://investing.businessweek.com...INTL%20INC. Premiums per worker are 3000 annually 6000 if they provide healthcare to the family. If you beggar the CEO you can pay for health insurance of 450 to 900 people. Papa Johns employs 16500 people. Let's take the whole company. They make a billion in revenues, but the company only nets 55 million dollars. 55 million/16500=3333. If they refuse pay share holders, they can provide healthcare for their employees without raising prices. Say you are going grocery shopping. One place has a sign up that says "we provide our employees with quality healthcare". The other doesn't (and doesn't provide healthcare). Healthcare market sells the exact same milk for $3 a gallon and the other sells it for $2.5 a gallon. Healthcare market sells your favorite microbrew for $8 a six pack, the other for $7.75. I know where you might claim you would shop, but the real question is, where do you think most people will go to buy their milk? Sure places like whole food do well in their niche. Unfortunately, the majority of people are extremely price sensitive to groceries. The same can be said of delivery pizza. |

Using half the crop for Ethanol has caused grain prices in general, not just corn, to skyrocket across the world, severely hurting the poorest of the poor who live mostly on bread, and threatening to destabilize many countries whose populace relies on cheap subsidized bread (egypt being the latest and most recent example [slate.com]) Last edited by Radeck; 08-09-2012 at 11:50 AM.. ![]() The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism',they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened - Norman Thomas,6-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the States, and too much liberty with the Constitution - R.
