Not to mention that sugary snacks are bad for you, and more and more people understand this.
Similarly, I would not cry over the demise of tobacco producers. ETA: shoulda read the OP first, they did mention this. Last edited by 124nic8; 11-16-2012 at 10:58 AM.. |

Richard Trumpka or whatever his name is says Bain is to blame.

The 18,000 without jobs can just go work for Teamsters now.
Win-win Teamstears cares about employees rights and 18,000 people will get jobs at an employer that cares. (.....but, but, Hawk!!! It doesn't work that way!!! ) LOL The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

Honestly, i don't understand why union pension plans aren't turned into profit sharing plans. If the company does well, so should the employees. If the company does poorly, then the employees should only get their salary/other benefits. I'd want this calculation to be subject to a limit on executive pay (to be clear, i wouldn't limit executive pay, i'd just want the caculation of the profit to be subject to a executive pay cap). Seems like a no-brainer.

The employees wanted pensions not profit sharing. We used to have union candy making jobs near me (Hershey).. they went to Mexico |

Meanwhile, through bankruptcies and liquidations, their CEO (who didn't invent any of these food products), more than tripled his salary to $2.5 million last year. |

Well at least it appeared that Management was trying different things to reinvent their brand, who knows if anything they would have tried would even have worked. Has there been a response by the Bakers Union yet now that it seems that calling the bluff backfired?

The blame should go to Hostess for their lack of long term perspective.
They made deals with unions to use overpriced labor and didn't account for changes in consumer preferences. The union is only trying to uphold their end of the agreement. They're not doing anything wrong legally, even though the right thing for both parties would be to compromise |
|
On the bright-side, 18,000+ people will no longer be exploited by this CEO. ![]() Win for every former employee of hostess. Win for the union. Win for America. |
